Service is in our DNA
At St. John, academic excellence is only half of the journey. We require our students to actively engage with the world around them, addressing local inequalities, environmental issues, and social challenges.
Graduation Requirements
To instill a lifelong habit of service, High School students (Grades 9-12) are required to complete a minimum of 40 verified hours of community service prior to graduation.
- Hours must be documented via the Student Portal.
- Activities must benefit non-profit organizations or underserved communities.
- Annual reflection essays are required.
Annual Holiday Drives
The school organizes massive, student-led charity drives aligned with major Ethiopian holidays to support local shelters and orphanages.
- Enkutatash (New Year): Stationery and school supply drive.
- Genna (Christmas): Clothing and basic necessities donation.
- Fasika (Easter): Food bank collections for marginalized Kebele residents.
Environmental Stewardship
Through our Green Campus Initiative, students regularly participate in local tree-planting campaigns and Kebele clean-ups. We partner with local civic organizations to adopt local green spaces, ensuring sustainability is an active practice, not just a textbook concept.
